Basic Play
- You may place the cue ball behind the kitchen line on the opening break.
- After that, you may only move the cue ball when you have ball in hand. In this build, ball in hand is anywhere on the table.
- The table starts open. The first legally pocketed numbered ball lets that shooter choose solids or stripes.
- Once groups are assigned, pocketed balls are credited to the correct player by group.
- You keep shooting only if you pocket one of your own balls. On an open table, any solid or stripe keeps your turn.
- Pocketing only your opponent's ball does not keep your turn.
Fouls
- Scratch: if the cue ball is pocketed, it is a foul.
- Once groups are assigned, you must hit your own group first.
- You may not hit the 8-ball first until your whole group is cleared.
- If the cue ball hits nothing, it is a foul.
- If no ball is pocketed, at least one ball must reach a rail after contact; otherwise it is a foul.
- On any foul, the other player gets ball in hand.
8-Ball
- If the 8-ball is pocketed on the break, it is spotted back onto the table.
- After you clear your group, you must call the 8-ball pocket by clicking a hole.
- You cannot pocket the 8-ball in the same shot as your last group ball. If you do, you lose.
- If you pocket the 8-ball without a called pocket, you lose.
- If you pocket the 8-ball in the wrong pocket, you lose.
- If you pocket the called 8-ball cleanly, you win.
APA-Style Notes In This Build
- Slop counts on regular balls. You do not call normal shots or normal pockets.
- If you are shooting the 8-ball and scratch, it is an automatic loss.
- If you are on the 8-ball and miss it entirely without scratching, it is only a foul and the other player gets ball in hand.
- The top bar shows Last Play, and the side panes show each player's pocketed balls and current group.
